About

Hello and welcome to my website, The Commute Sports! The averages fan’s home for sports data visualizations and analysis.

Why I started The Commute Sports:

I’ve been a sports fan my entire life, but like most people was nowhere near talented enough to play professionally or in college. As a Data Scientist, the emergence of data analysis and analytics in sports has always been an interest of mine. After some thought, I decided to start posting the projects I work on in my free time and thus the creation of The Commute Sports.

What to expect:

The Commute Sports has been through a shift recently to focus on more predictive analysis in sports that interest me. This NHL season I will be rolling out a project that predicts the outcome of every NHL game. That combined with the increased in popularity of sports gambling provides for a great frame work to measure success of my model, as in how accurate it is and how profitable it is. This model will be posted daily on twitter .

I still plan on writing articles that focus on the visualizations in an easy to understand format.

A little bit about myself:

I have a M.A. and B.S. in Economics and a minor in Statistics.

I use Python almost exclusively for my visualizations, but older articles do feature some that were made with Tableau. For graphics posted on my instagram and twitter I use Python for visualizations.
